REAM Projects in Kirinyaga District (Mt. Kenya):

Since the completion of its Thiba pilot project in 2005 Gpower has launched the construction of 11 further micro-hydro plants in Kirinyaga alone. These 11 projects together make up the first Rural Energy Access Model. In 2008 the Lake Basin Development Authority invited Gpower to replicate another REAM in Western and Nyanza District (Kenya).
 
   
Table 1 shows the 11 communities in central Kenya with whom Gpower is currently engaged to complete it's first REAM. Gpower expects to complete the first 80Kwatt turbine for Kiangurwe before mid 2009. As shown in the table, funding is secured for turbines in 4 neighbouring communities:
